The Loggers Games is a celebrated annual event in Maynooth. For many years now, a large part of Maynooth's economy has revolved around the logging industry.
The Loggers Games are a chance for those in this local industry to test and demonstrate their skill and endurance... not to mention a bit of artistic flair... such as cross-cut sawing, wood bucking and chair carving.
The marketplace offers artisans and craftspeople displaying their handiwork, outdoor vendors, food concessions......and a great ' kids area' - face painting, fish pond and free balloons for the little ones - just to name a few.
BEST OF ALL.....ADMISSION IS FREE and there is ample parking on site. There is no midway and all events are volunteer run. Don't be afraid to offer to help out. Drop us a line at: info@maynooth.on.ca.
Lots of vendors -- Lots of Fun -- Entertainment for young and old.
In
the last months of the winter of '88/89, the Maynooth Business Association
had just been started. The group consisted of all the main street businesses
and all the local logging and contracting companies. There were maybe a dozen
members looking for an event to attract tourists, when the idea of a trunk
sale/flea market came up - Maynooth Madness was
born.
During
the next winter, the Maynooth Business Association was approached by local
loggers with an idea to stage a logging competition in conjunction with Maynooth
Madness.
In 1990, the 2nd Annual Maynooth Madness featured the Maynooth Loggers Games and Parade and attracted 1,000 people. In recent years, the OPP estimated up to 10,000 people!
HISTORY
NOTE: At one time, Maynooth was home to one of the largest fairs
in Hastings County. People arrived first in Bancroft by train and then had
to catch the stage coach to Maynooth. It was a two day event and was referred
to by locals as the "show fair" as, of course, much of it was the displaying
of home canning, knitting, quilting, garden produce, etc. All were put on
"show" to see who would be judged the best. Another very large part of the
event was the baseball competition as there was great rivalry among neighbouring
communities. More history....
There is too much to include on this page, so you will just
have to join us.
