Maynooth
Celtic Fundraising Dinner
Our first fundraiser of the year in support of the Maynooth Celtic Festival
Saturday, January 30th, 2010, at the Maynooth Community Centre, marks the annual Brigit's Eve Dinner and Dance (catered by Bruce Kellar).
The 2010 Maynooth Celtic Festival is one day, one location, from 11 a.m. till 11 p.m. and will offer memorable meals and music from start to finish. For further information, telephone 613-338-2862.
Who was Brigit? She is without doubt the oldest, most wide-spread and most revered of all the Celtic goddesses. Her name means 'fiery arrow' and she blazes a path across the sky. She is the patroness of the Celtic professional classes: the smiths, poets and healers, above all the midwives. She is the creative source of all birthing, all inspiration, and the protectress of all who venture into the Otherworld; that shadowy world of poetry and prophesy. Her festival is Imbolc, February 1st, a time of purification, and the celebration of the lambing of the ewes. In latter times she became a Christian saint, but saint or goddess her role remains the same. |
See Maynooth Celtic Festival web site for more information on tickets, performers, etc.
